Detroit Lions' Don Carey Slams #BlackLivesMatter Over Abortion
Last week we commented and applauded Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman for speaking out about the #BlackLivesMatter movement. Sherman's statement about Black Lives Matter had us nodding approvingly from our chairs, but Don Carey for the Detroit Lions, has us standing up and cheering. Maybe even doing the wave. Maybe even kissing on the jumbotron. You get the point. In an OpEd in the Detroit Free Press, Carey wrote:
I personally have some concerns in regard to the Black Lives Matter movement. I remember when this movement burst onto the scene several years ago. I was both enamored and repelled by its message. Enamored, because as an African-American man, I have experienced and seen injustices committed against my people, sometimes due to no fault of their own. For the first time that I can remember, it seemed someone was standing up for them on a national level. However, I was quickly turned off by this movement due to the narrow mind-set and irony that exists at its roots. Let me explain my meaning.According to a study by the New York Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, more African-American babies were aborted (31,328) in New York than were born (24,758) there in 2012. Needless to say, this number is severely repulsive. Yet, we've heard nothing from those within the camp of Black Lives Matter on the subject. It seems that we have Matthew 7 dilemma. That is, we are so focused on the speck in eyes of others that we are ignoring the plank within our own. We are so focused on the injustices done by a few wayward police officers that we ignore the blatant disregard for life within our own culture.
Well if that's not a figurative pick six, I don't know what is. Carey is one hundred percent correct on this one. Black Americans are disproportionately targeted by abortion (Margaret Sanger, their founder, intended it this way), and it's a bit, how do we say it...hypocritical to say "Black Lives Matter" when nothing is done to stop the slaughter of black lives in the womb. In fact many of the same people who support the message of Black Lives Matter actively praise Planned Parenthood.
Fun fact for you: a black American child has almost the same statistical chance of being aborted, as they do of actually being born. In New York in 2012, more black babies were aborted than even born. Leftists, why no complaints about the genocide here?
If "human lives matter" then they should matter regardless of their size, level of development, environment or ability to pay taxes...
Wait a second, I think I've found the problem.
