Don Lemon spreads fake news about getting fired by CNN, gets called out for it... by CNN
Today has seen a lot of shakeups in the media world. First, Charles Barkley was added to CNN's lineup, then Tucker Carlson left Fox News. And now, in dramatically less important news, Don Lemon has been given the boot from CNN.
Lemon tweeted out the news this afternoon:
"I was informed this morning by my agent that I have been terminated by CNN. I am stunned. After 17 years at CNN I would have thought that someone in management would have had the decency to tell me directly. At no time was I ever given any indication that I would not be able to continue to do the work I have loved at the network. It is clear that there are some larger issues at play. With that said, I want to thank my colleagues and the many teams I have worked with for an incredible run. They are the most talented journalists in the business, and I wish them all the best."

So that's sad. Kind of. (Not really.)
Except it isn't even true. CNN PR had to publicly fact check him:
"Don Lemon’s statement about this morning’s events is inaccurate. He was offered an opportunity to meet with management but instead released a statement on Twitter."

Twitter users also added context to Lemon's original tweet that reads, "Per CNN PR, the statement 'is inaccurate. He was offered an opportunity to meet with management but instead released a statement on Twitter.'"
It's unclear what exactly led to Lemon's termination. But it may have had something to do with his history of disdain towards women. Particularly women over fifty, or women who demand unreasonable salary increases despite underwhelming performances (*cough* U.S. soccer *cough*). Whatever the reason, he will certainly be missed. I think.
