Donald Trump Challenges the Media to "Set a Civil Tone"
All eyes were on Donald Trump Wednesday night. In the wake of a series of bombs being sent to Democrats, everyone in the media wanted to see if Donald Trump would strike a more civil tone. Likely to their chagrin, he did.
Then issued a little civility challenge of his own.
The media also has a responsibility to set a civil tone and to stop the endless hostility and constant negative and oftentimes false attacks and stories. Have to do it.
Nothing Trump said was wrong. I'm not saying he doesn't need to dial down the rhetoric. He does. So should many in politics and media. But let's not pretend the mainstream media doesn't bear its own responsibility for why this political climate is the way it is (see MSNBC Compares Trump/Putin Summit to Pearl Harbor and CNN “Doxxes” Another Person Trump Retweeted AND Misquotes Them).
For the past decade, leftist after leftist has appeared on cable news calling Americans racist and sexist homophobes over the slightest disagreement. Claiming you'd be literally killing people by not supporting their legislation. And voters they disagree with are literally hate speech. Setting aside none of them know how to properly use the word "literally."
A decade of this crap has gone unchallenged by media, if not amplified by the same media. For those of you not quick to math, a decade is ten years. Trump has only been president for two. Not even two. We're rounding up.
Everyone needs to chill out. But what the media wants is unilateral disarmament in the form of surrender.
F*ck that.
