Donald Trump: Democrats are the 'Party Of Slavery'
Donald Trump just took the campaign to a whole new level, pointing out how the Democrat Party was pro-slavery and pro-Jim Crow. Kind of throws a wrench into the entire idea that Democrats are "pro-civil rights" doesn't? Maybe that was the point.
Yes, he went there.
I will not accept, and neither will you, a future in which children of color --any color-- in this country are not fully included in the American Dream. Our whole country loses when we leave millions of talented, aspiring Americans on the sidelines. We want to give everyone a chance to contribute their full talents to our economy and our country.
Remember, and many people don't know this: the Republican Party is the Party of Abraham Lincoln, not bad! It is also the party of freedom, equality and opportunity.
It is the Democratic Party that is the party of slavery, the party of Jim Crow, the and party of [oppression].
We don't often do this for Donald Trump, but credit where due.
Glossing over the "many people don't know Republicans are the party of Lincoln" section, Trump is right about the rest. Or maybe people DO know the Republican party is the party of Abraham Lincoln. Doesn't hurt to remind everyone what the Republicans stand for, while reminding the American people what the Democrat party stands for.
A one, two punch, if you will.
Democrats have tried to re-write even recent history, claiming they're super touchy-feely on the civil rights issues. When in reality, no. In fact not even today are the Democrats the party of "civil rights" (read also Gaystaop Strikes Again: Christian Bakery Fined for Reasons You Won't Believe...). Claiming to care, simply stating "We're the party of civil rights," doesn't actually make you the party of civil rights. I know leftists like to change how one defines reality (see the entire transgender movement), but reality cannot be changed just because your party's past is bleak and oppressive.
So again, kudos to Trump here. If I could offer him advice, I'd suggest he keep hitting this point when he's taking a break from hitting Hillary. Focus on the message, focus on taking down the Democrats while raising the Republican message. Leave Ted Cruz and his papa off the teleprompter talking points, m'kay?
Donald Trump's trip to Mexico on Wednesday should be interesting...
