Elon Musk is a man of vision and a leader in the world of sustainable energy. As much as the Biden Administration would rather it was otherwise, he’s the driving force behind the move to electric vehicles, and it isn’t even close. But he’s also a bit of a pragmatist, and looking at our current situation (i.e. the Russia/Ukraine conflict), he knows what needs to be done.

Musk isn’t an idiot. He knows that sanctioning Russian oil must be done, and this move would inevitably drive up the price of oil and gasoline, which would hurt everyday Americans.

He also knows that domestic oil production and the general dependence on fossil fuels cuts against his bottom line. But Musk has never shied away from taking a hit, even if it’s just to prove a point.

The demand to increase domestic oil production has become a bipartisan one, as individuals from all over the political spectrum watch as America effectively finances the invasion of Ukraine with its oil purchases while issuing less consequential sanctions with the hope of affecting Putin’s decision-making in some small way. But this situation is untenable.

Will our government—which is full of hacks, cynics, and imbeciles—finally do what must be done? It would require the Democrats and Biden to snub their radical environmental base and upset those in their caucus like the rabid “Green New Deal” proponent Rep. AOC, but as calls grow, it becomes more possible.

It’s too bad Musk wasn’t born an American. I can’t help but think he would have had this entire situation figured out and solved in a day if he were in charge.
