ENGLAND: Government Overreaches into Healthcare... Doctors Strike Mid-Operations
Picture this. Your "friend" has set you up on a blind date. Turns out with a leftist you knew from high school. As your plotting revenge against this friend, your date asks the server if the salad is gluten free. As the server fetches your salads, hopefully without a dash of spittle, your date lectures you about the wonders of socialized medicine. Healthcare, he or she will say, is a human right. Access to medicine, it's a necessity. Why if only America was following in the Birkenstock footsteps of Europe or Canada. Was that chicken free range and fed an all organic diet?
If abortion is the leftist sacrament, socialized medicine is its church. Any institution which orders citizens on how they must behave is a dream of the left. You and I know socialized medicine is a mitigated disaster. So when things like this happen in England, we must take note of it.
The first ever all-out strike by doctors in the history of the UK's National Health Service (NHS) began in England on Tuesday, as junior doctors continue to protest against new contracts they say are unsafe and are being forced upon them. [They] walked out of both routine and emergency care... [cancelling] nearly 13,000 operations and more than 100,000 appointments.Doctors who belong to the trade union [BMA] have been in a long-running dispute with the government over planned changes to their contracts, which would mean an extension of their standard working hours to include evening and Saturdays.
Emphasis added. So we're clear, in England, the government runs the healthcare system. The government is telling, not asking, these doctors what hours they'll be working. They're also changing how much doctors will be getting paid. Spoiler alert: it's much less than they hoped.
The doctors have no say in the matter, either. Because there aren't a lot of options, employment-wise, for junior doctors, they're a bit screwed. The government is already working against them. So they did the only thing they could do to draw attention to their plight. They walked out on all their patients and operations.
This is a cautionary tale. Obviously, England operates much differently than the USA. Except our own politicians like Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, point to countries like England as medical systems worthy of emulation. But England shouldn't be emulated. It's a shining example of what not to do (see also the monarchy, Jaguar, migrant policy, bread and butter pudding). Look no further than the festering mold pile that is Obamacare, ruining everything it touches... If you think reading this story about the NHS in England isn't exactly like looking into a crystal ball, I have some bad news for you.
Socialized, government-funded medicine works exactly as it is in England: poorly. If the government is the one making a muck of the system, but it's the government who runs the system, then who do these doctors petition? This is the darker side of "free healthcare" no one wants to discuss. That is the people who provide said "free" healthcare. If you insist that your healthcare should be free, that means someone else, in this case doctors should be forced to provide their services at cost. Are these doctors being told to perform for free? Not yet.
Whoa, leftists, don't. I know what you're screaming at me. You're saying doctors get paid too much already. Or why should someone profit off your bad health!? Spare, me. Let me ask you a question in answer: do you really want to screw over the person whose hands you're placing your bodily welfare? I mean for realzies?
Speaking of how much socialized medicine sucks, here's Canada's system. How about before you alter American healthcare, you go up to Canada and see how it actually works.
