Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook’s COO, wasted no time leaning in and explaining that because hate speech “has no place in our society,” the site will be implementing its “Initiative for Civil Courage Online,” which will slowly but surely purge Europe of all xenophobic rhetoric. Facebook is doing this by allocating $1.09 million to support non-government organizations that are attempting to curb online threats and hate speech.

In Germany, especially, hateful speech regarding the influx of refugees has been a problem that officials have spoken out against repeatedly. In November, prosecutors in Hamburg began investigating Facebook for not doing enough to prevent the dissemination of hate speech, according to Reuters. The Initiative comes on the heels of this investigation and a public urging from Chancellor Angela Merkel for the social media company to do more to prevent online harassment.

Riiiiiiiight. The problem is the "hateful speech" directed towards the influx of refugees, and not that the influx of refugees are sexually assaulting Germans in record numbers. Rape, incestuous rape, child-rape, rape-rape... these are all but minor details in the push for digital tolerance.

Germans are being forced to arm themselves - only not with guns (because those are a no no in Germany) but we're supposed to believe the real epidemic is like, super mean Facebook posts. Oh bother. Of course this is no surprise to anyone who's read LwC for any length of time. A few month back, we covered Zuckerberg and Merkel's embarrassing live mic moment.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel was overheard confronting Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg over incendiary posts on the social network, Bloomberg reported on Sunday, amid complaints from her government about anti-immigrant posts in the midst of Europe’s refugee crisis.

On the sidelines of a United Nations luncheon on Saturday, Merkel was caught on a hot mic pressing Zuckerberg about social media posts about the wave of Syrian refugees entering Germany, the publication reported.

The Facebook CEO was overheard responding that “we need to do some work” on curtailing anti-immigrant posts about the refugee crisis. “Are you working on this?” Merkel asked in English, to which Zuckerberg replied in the affirmative before the transmission was disrupted.

Today just makes it official. Once upon a time, leftists used to only silence political dissidents behind the scenes. They'd censor in the shadows. Today it's just out in the open. They don't care anymore. Kind of like how leftists used to accuse Conservatives of using the word "socialist" because they "can't say the N-word!" Fast forward to 2016... and Bernie Sanders supporters literally slap the label, "Socialist," on their bumper stickers.

At least with Conservatives, you know what you're getting. Take this post for instance. Maybe Facebook will remove it as hate-speech. It wouldn't surprise me, but frankly...

Because that's what happens when leftists silence dissent. It doesn't open up a dialogue. It doesn't quell "hate speech." It just created more angry, hateful people. So congratulations Merkel, you've made the world a more racist place.
