CHILLING: Facebook Shuts Down Ex-Muslims' Page. For 'Disrespecting Islam'...
Do you have a page on Facebook disrespecting Islam? There's a chance Facebook will shut it down. Yes, even if the page is run by ex-Muslims, who may have a reason or two for wanting to "disrespect" Islam...
An anonymous group of ex-Muslims has slammed Facebook for its censorship of anti-Islamic content as several pages are shut down and banned for allegedly violating community rules. The group - which is made up of former Muslim-Australians - claims Facebook pulled the plug on pages with thousands of followers after users flagged them as 'disrespecting' the Islam religion, reports The Australian.
'Restrictions to these platforms would be overwhelmingly damaging for ex-Muslims who are too afraid to go public with their views due to the taboo of leaving and criticising a religion,' a spokeswoman for the group said.
Now if this article is accurate (Facebook loves itself some censorship Facebook Caves to Pakistani Demands. Agrees to Address “Blasphemous Posts…” and CENSORSHIP: Facebook, YouTube, Twitter Agree to Ban ‘Hate Speech’ in Europe), the recent page shutdown is chilling. We've moved away from decency standards of "too many cuss words" or even GENERALLY offensive content (say a man making amorous moves with a goat). Now Facebook is allegedly targeting a point of view expressed. Opinions which specifically offend a minority group of people.
In this case it's Muslims, who believe in death for apostates, who are offended. By Ex-Muslims fearful of being exposed due to the aforementioned death to apostates. A Facebook group, where former Muslims can express their concern, doesn't seem like it's as offensive as, say, I dunno... ISIS beheading infidels. Infidels including those who question Islam. You can see the conflict of interest here.
Now let's role play. Imagine a group of Christians, let's go with Catholics, getting all hurty about a Facebook group made up of ex-Catholics who're expressing concern about Christianity and the church. Do you think Facebook would shut down the ex-Catholics? Rhetorical question.
Islamic privilege. Islam gets a free pass on just about everything, no? Perhaps the way to Facebook's hearts is through frequent wife-beating and occasional self-explosion.
