"We need to do more to prevent gun violence" crows every rube with brains consisting of mainly sawdust. The "do more" typically takes the form of "more government intervention." Well, strap on a safety belt, the ride is about to get bumpy with inconvenient, narrative-busting facts. Because a government entity took the call of "doing more" then used it to wipe its ass.

FBI released this statement on the Parkland Shooting:

On January 5, 2018, a person close to Nikolas Cruz contacted the FBI’s Public Access Line (PAL) tipline to report concerns about him. The caller provided information about Cruz’s gun ownership, desire to kill people, erratic behavior, and disturbing social media posts, as well as the potential of him conducting a school shooting.

Under established protocols, the information provided by the caller should have been assessed as a potential threat to life. The information then should have been forwarded to the FBI Miami Field Office, where appropriate investigative steps would have been taken.

"Should have been assessed." Get that, celebrities with ever-tweeting fingers? Your government "should have" assessed a real threat. Didn't.

We have determined that these protocols were not followed for the information received by the PAL on January 5. The information was not provided to the Miami Field Office, and no further investigation was conducted at that time.

FBI Director Christopher Wray said:

“We are still investigating the facts. I am committed to getting to the bottom of what happened in this particular matter, as well as reviewing our processes for responding to information that we receive from the public. It’s up to all Americans to be vigilant, and when members of the public contact us with concerns, we must act properly and quickly.

“We have spoken with victims and families, and deeply regret the additional pain this causes all those affected by this horrific tragedy. All of the men and women of the FBI are dedicated to keeping the American people safe, and are relentlessly committed to improving all that we do and how we do it.”

Lest any government agency apologist try to excuse the FBI so they might continue blaming an inanimate object they find terrifying, this isn't the first time a government agency has failed to act on a mass shooter: Pentagon Knew of Lapse in Military Crime Reporting. Did Nothing. But please, let's keep blaming a tool used by millions of legal Americans. Far easier to decry something which is incapable of defending itself, rather than admit your reasoning is flawed.

More government involvement isn't the solution to a mass shooter. More government is only the solution when one wishes to weaponize hemorrhoids. We already have background checks. We already have law enforcement. We already have agencies tasked with investigating crime and credible threats. Law enforcement and the FBI failed here. Resulting in the gunman passing a background check. So, if law enforcement and the FBI had done that which they're tasked with doing, isn't it possible to conclude Nikolas Cruz would've failed a background check? Thereby would not have purchased guns legally?
