FLASHBACK: De Niro at the Tony Awards Reminds Me of "Team America"
The following two tweets are emblematic of the left. Both, I believe, in response to Bob De Niro's raging bullocks, potty-mouthed criticism of Donald Trump at the Tony Awards. One from Dean Obeidallah. The derp of "comedy." The other from Michael Ian Black. Who unlike Dean, at least used to be funny. MTV's The State was a much simpler time.
The celebrity sentiment reminded me of Team America: World Police.
To be clear, yes. The right elected a celebrity as President of the United States. The irony of writing about two other celebrities this morning, Dean Cain and Dana White, isn't lost on me. There's definitely a degree of hypocrisy on the right when it comes to celebrities expressing opinions. I'll cop to that. Plus Derp of Comedy's comment on Trump snowflakes isn't without some merit. Okay? Okay.
Where I personally draw the line is when celebrities act like douchebags about their self-importance. Acting like their opinion is the only one that matters. Or that they're qualified experts on policy. Just because their publicists were sent talking points from Chuck Schumer's intern between prepping matcha lattes.
Leonard Lowe said "Tuck Frump" in front of a bunch of overprivileged entertainers. The left thinks it's just the bee's knees. What the rant really did was sprinkle magic powder on a voting block.
If 2020 turns into Middle America enjoying jobs and tax cuts vs people who get paid ludicrous amounts of money to play dress up and make-believe, the left should just jump to 2024. It won't be pretty.
