Flashback: Rob Lowe Destroying Liberals on Taxes
With Bernie Sanders winning the New Hampshire primary and the inevitable ratcheting up of Hillary Clinton's leftist rhetoric to compete, it makes sense to revisit this Rob Lowe classic on taxes.
Okay, really it's Sam Seaborn played by Rob Lowe on "The West Wing," but you get my point.
The funny thing here? Seaboarn was always a more leftist character.
"Every time your boss got on the stump and said, 'It's time for the rich to pay their fair share,' I hid under a couch and changed my name. I left Gage Whitney making $400,000 a year, which means I paid 27 times the national average in income tax. I paid my fair share, and the fair share of 26 other people. And I'm happy to, 'cause that's the only way it's gonna work. And it's in my best interest that everybody be able to go to schools and drive on roads. But I don't get 27 votes on Election Day. The fire department doesn't come to my house 27 times faster and the water doesn't come out of my faucet 27 times hotter. The top one percent of wage earners in this country pay for 22 percent of this country. Let's not call them names while they're doing it, is all I'm saying."
Something to keep in mind as more and more people start to openly admit we can't afford Bernie Sanders. No seriously, even The Huffington Post and Washington Post have admitted that his math just doesn't add up. Read "WaPo Says We Can't Afford Bernie" and "Even HuffPo Admits to Bernie's Fuzzie Math" here. It's just that bad.
The argument constantly heard from the left is that "the wealthy unfairly benefit from the current systems in place!" Really? As Rob Lowe points out here (and anyone who's ever gotten a big promotion knows), that couldn't be further from the truth. Think of when you received that 30% pay increase, or if you're a small business owner, when those profits finally started kicking in (those ones you "didn't build" or deserve? Yeah those)... did your taxes afford you that much more? Did you finally receive a key to the secret door unlocking more riches than you ever imagined?
... or did you find yourself getting the exact same quality of services afforded to the 47% of Americans who pay no federal income tax at all?
Yeah, that's pretty much what I figured. As has anyone who's even close to finding themselves in one of the higher marginal tax rates. But hey, we can just tax them more, right? They can afford it. Plus, then we could pay for everyone's healthcare and college!
Just one problem. If you taxed all earnings over $1,000,000 in this country at ONE HUNDRED PERCENT, it still wouldn't even come close to covering the promises from today's progressive left.. To make said taxes and false promises easier to understand, I've included a video below.
