Florida Law Allowing Death Penalty for Child Rapists Goes Into Effect (But Not Everyone Is Happy)
Fortunately, there is still some sanity left in the world.
Florida’s new law permitting the death penalty for pedophiles went into effect this week, Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Tuesday evening.
“Florida’s law allowing the death penalty for child rapists is now in effect,” DeSantis said on X. “The minimum sentence is life in prison without parole. In Florida, anyone who harms children in such a horrific way will never walk free.”
The law only specifically pertains to child victims under the age of 12.
It should really be for all ages but apparently, some courts believe imposing death sentences in these types of cases is a violation of the 8th Amendment.
Upon signing it into law, Florida DeSantis also said: “These are really the worst of the worst. The perpetrators of these crimes are often serial offenders.”
“Such crimes destroy the innocence of a young child and violate all standards of decency held by civilized society,” the statute says.
The State also notes that the state Legislature determined that both Buford v. State of Florida and Kennedy v. Louisiana, cases in which the Florida Supreme Court and SCOTUS held that the death penalty for child rape was cruel and unusual, were “wrongly decided and an egregious infringement of the state’s power to punish the most heinous of crimes.”
There is no reason anyone should ever oppose such a law. And if they do, well that definitely says a lot about them, doesn’t it?
Well, not everyone agrees.
In voting against the measure, Sen. Rosalind Osgood, D-Fort Lauderdale, said in April that the bill presented her with a "quandary."
"I love kids, and I'll do anything to protect them," Osgood said.
Are you sure about that?
"But I struggle from a faith perspective. If I believe in my faith that God can redeem and save anybody, then how do I support someone getting the death penalty? And I'm just talking about me. That's my struggle. That's my challenge,” she said.
Oh, so anything but protecting them from child rapists? Got it.
I don’t know if Osgood has ever actually read the Bible, but it definitely supports the death penalty for child rapists. So no need for her to struggle with her faith since that is what God commands.
It is really refreshing to see politicians like DeSantis standing up for victims at a time when activists only care about the worst of criminals.
We definitely live in a society with backward thinking. The same people who are fighting for the rights of criminals are also trying to force children to take drugs that were once used to chemically castrate pedophiles.
You know, the same drug they give to children to ‘block puberty’ because they are allegedly born in the wrong body.
How does that make sense? These people want the predators out to commit crimes on children, while also forcing the children to go through with the punishments we used to give to these pedos.
At a time when children are being targeted by sexual content and destructive gender ideology, it is nice to see there are still people out there working to protect children.
There is absolutely no place in a civilized society for predatory child sex offenders.
