Florida Bill Would Make “Lewd Or Lascivious Grooming” Of Minors A Felony, First Offenders Get Hit With HARSH Penalty
Florida has introduced a bill that would make "lewd or lascivious grooming” a second-degree felony. However, it is unclear why it took this long for someone to introduce such a sane bill.
According to the National Review:
“A new bill in Florida would make “lewd or lascivious grooming” a second-degree felony, punishable by up to 15 years in prison and $10,000 in fines for first offenders.
The one-page bill, filed last week in the Florida house by Republicans Taylor Yarkosky and Douglas Bankson, would criminalize the act of ‘preparing or encouraging a child to engage in sexual activity through overtly sexually themed communication.’
The bill similarly applies to instances where a child “observed” such sexual communications without permission from the child’s guardians.
‘Habitual’ offenders of second-degree felonies may face up to 30 years in prison.
Although the bill does not distinguish between heterosexual and homosexual grooming, critics and activists have suggested the bill will disproportionately hurt LGBTQ people and censor related content.”
Okay, let me try and make sense of the outrage. If passed, “preparing or encouraging a child to engage in sexual activity through overtly sexually themed communication” would be a second-degree felony. It also does not distinguish between any sexuality or preference. So why on earth, is there outrage from the left, especially in regards to the LGBT community?
Sorry, but I cannot make sense of that one.
Any logical person would look at this bill and think it is a good idea. It is unclear what motives someone would have to oppose such a bill. You can be the judge of that one. But I can tell you that claiming that 'punishing people for grooming is a de facto target towards the LGBT community' does not send the message of being on what you call “the ride side of history.”
“‘One does not need to hypothesize what the intent is of the bill, however. The bill’s sponsors and organizations pushing it have made it clear that the intent is to target LGBTQ+ content and drag shows,’ journalist and transgender activist Anthony ‘Erin’ Reed wrote.
The publication LGBTQ Nation alleged that the Florida bill ‘appears to be the state’s latest attempt to criminalize the existence of LGBTQ+ people and content.’
Axios reported that ‘LGBTQ+ advocates are bracing for another tough legislative session for gay and transgender Floridians.’”
Children are malleable. Any sort of content that targets a child through sexually-themed communication is inherently wrong and evil. It is increasingly concerning that the left wants to make it mandatory to expose the most vulnerable people in society to this content.
Look, if someone thinks that this bill is a threat to "who he is" or his lifestyle, the problem is not the bill. And it is baffling that we even need to debate these sorts of things.
