Teachers' Union Demands Homeless Should (Checks Notes) Sleep In Its Public School Parking Lots?!
Students at a high school in Fresno, CA, may now have to deal with panhandling, car break-ins, needles, and feces as they start the school day.
One of the state's largest teachers' unions wants to open up its public school parking lots to the homeless, The Washington Free Beacon reported.
In a contract proposal, the Fresno Teachers Association said the district should spend $500,000 to “open high school parking lots to homeless families to park their car” and “provide paid security.”
The Fresno Unified School District has refused to agree to the degenerate priorities, and the union is subsequently threatening to strike in the next few weeks.
President Manuel Bonilla said that he is pursuing this in an attempt to address "societal things."
“Is it the school system’s job to fix everything in regards to societal things? Absolutely not,” Bonilla said. “There are ideas on how we might do it because nobody else is thinking about these things,” he added, “Instead of coming to the table and designing something with us, they’d rather scrutinize the idea and shut down the conversation. Our ideas are not the end all, be all; they are a starting point. And if they have a better idea, let’s do that. But they don’t even want to have a conversation.”
Thousands of teachers are now on track to strike following a union vote on October 18.
The Fresno Board of Education wants to avoid that outcome and passed a resolution last month to allow the district to employ emergency substitute teachers.
"If we're unable to reach an agreement, we are well-prepared and will ensure that our schools stay open, safe, and full of learning," Fresno Unified School District spokeswoman Nikki Henry told the news outlet, adding that students "cannot afford another school closure after the pandemic."
The union has also demanded other costly extras in an effort to advance its progressive causes.
This includes $1 million for a free laundry service and another million for free meditation, yoga, and exercise programs for students. They also want mental health services for parents and free clothes, hygiene products, and shampoo and conditioner for students as well.
What does yoga have to do with education? And is PE not a free exercise program anymore?
Negotiations have been going on since last Nov. The last agreement ended several months ago.
The district has made a contour offer that would increase the average teacher salary by 11 percent to nearly $100,000.
Maybe this would not be such a bad idea after all. If they make this happen then maybe the students will be able to get a real-world view on the effect of Democratic policies.
All jokes aside, this is yet another example that proves teacher unions are not looking out for children but are more concerned with trying to push their progressive agenda.
But why are the teachers not letting homeless people sleep in their home driveways? Don’t they care about these societal issues?
On the 2022-23 California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress, or CAASPP tests, 33.2 percent of Fresno Unified students met or exceeded English language arts standards, and one percent and 23.3 percent met or exceeded standards in math, according to EdSource.
In other words, most students are not meeting state education standards.
What a bunch of narcissistic brats. They are failing students and expect a pay raise that gets them over six figures. What a joke.
But I guess that's why they want to turn their schools into a tent city. Since they are all just a bunch of clowns.
Teachers unions are constantly abusing their power at the expense of student safety. Their obsession with woke causes has taken their attention away from education. You know, the thing they were actually hired for. Since when was it their job to house a bunch of drug addicts?
Get real.
It is time to defund the teachers' issues.
