Did you hear the one about the lesbian politician kicked out of a comedy club over her TERF gender beliefs?
Stop me if you heard this one before. A Scottish lesbian MP walks into a comedy club. The bartender says, "Away with you, TERF! You make our staff afraid for their lives." That's the case with MP Joanna Cherry and a club called The Stand. And it's not a joke. If it were a joke I would say, "Why does the transgender refer to themselves as she/her? Because if they were her/she they'd be chocolate."
Cherry was scheduled to speak at the "Fringe Festival." Yet because she holds the antiquated belief that while all people deserve equal rights men can't just call themselves women, she is a transphobe and the staff at The Stand is terrified. So her event has been canceled.
A statement regarding Joanna Cherry’s participation in The Stand’s Edinburgh Fringe programme, which will no longer go ahead. For more on this, please visit: https://t.co/aUxnY6sjEU pic.twitter.com/xl0dtrs3lQ

Cherry tells the BBC that "I'm being canceled and no-platformed because I'm a lesbian, who holds gender-critical views that somebody's sex is immutable." She also shares some of her controversial opinions in this interview, such as her position that convicted male rapists should NOT be allowed in women's prisons.
“This is what happens to women like me. We are constantly misrepresented and it leads to us being discriminated against.”

There are two big issues. One, comedy clubs don't cancel politicians they don't like. They welcome the politician to the club. Sit them upfront. Cover their two drink minimum. Then roast the shit out of them onstage.
Two, we have yet another example of how there is no common ground to find with progressives. I'm going to go on a limb and say a Scottish lesbian activist and an American right-wing blogger don't see eye-to-eye on many things. Yet if the ONLY thing we agree on is that male rapists should not be allowed in women's prisons no matter how that male says they identify, we can have a conversation.
If that is the only issue she and activists DISAGREE on, she is shamed and othered and told she can't sit with them.
Cherry also makes an important point about cancel culture. It's less the "cancel' as much as it is the "culture."
I'm someone in public life, a fairly privileged and powerful woman. If this can happen to me, just think about how much more likely it is to happen to women with less power.
Yep. It is almost as if that's exactly what woke activists want to happen.
