Police Cpl. Michael Paredes and Officer Joseph Santana were killed in the line of duty this week by Justin Flores, a known gang member with a list of priors. He should have been in jail, but this is Los Angeles, where Soros-backed progressive district attorney George Gascón doesn't do things like that.

The two officers responded to a call about a stabbing. Where the controversy comes in is that, instead of being in a motel stabbing people and killing cops, Flores SHOULD have been in prison. Flores was busted last year for being a felon in possession of a firearm. It would have been his second strike under California's "three-strike rule." Gascón refuses to prosecute three-strike cases. Flores pled down. Then, earlier this week, he killed two cops.

For comparison, elsewhere in California, Cain Velasquez faces a life sentence for firing a gun at a pedophile who molested his four-year-old. The pedo is not in jail.

Gascón's weak-on-crime policies have created a number of questionable results. A guy who tried to run over a mother and her baby was sent to a juvenile probation camp, even though he had priors and was on drugs. In another story, a child molester was not only given a weak sentence and told he would not have to register as a sex offender, but the guy also laughed it off and bragged about the sweet deal he was given.

Now, two dead cops.

It's not all Gascón's fault. The people of Los Angeles voted for him and elected him to office running on these policies. What LA has turned into is the consequences of the voters' actions. There is a recall effort underway. Let's hope low-information progressive voters don't replace Gascón with another progressive running on a similar platform and hope for different results.
