Here we go: Official calls for INDEFINITE driving ban to fight climate change

In the Progressive pursuit to control the direction of the wind, a German minister has proposed an indefinite driving ban on weekends to meet arbitrary emissions goals.
I would say it's cute that some German officials think that this would do anything even remotely beneficial, but it’s not. It’s a pathetic authoritarian move that should be condemned to the fullest extent.
German Transport Minister Volker Wissing attracted backlash on Friday after threatening to impose weekend driving bans in the summer to abide by the climate protection law, in the latest dispute within Berlin's ruling coalition over decarbonising.
Greenhouse emissions of Europe's biggest economy fell to the lowest level in 70 years in 2023, but the transport sector has been consistently failing to meet its climate targets.
According to the current climate protection law, the ministry responsible for underperforming sectors must launch an immediate program to put them back on track.
The transport minister has so far resisted introducing such a program for the sector, saying incoming amendments to the climate protection law would allow the sector to miss its CO2 cuts target if Germany's total emissions target is met.
For months, the government coalition of the Social Democrats (SPD), Greens and pro-business FDP has been in negotiations about the amendments but has not yet reached an agreement.
In a push to get his coalition partners to quickly approve the changes, Wissing said the ministry would have to enforce a ban on driving to meet the current law requirements if the amendments do not come into force before mid-July.
"A corresponding reduction in traffic performance would only be possible through restrictive measures that are difficult to communicate to the population, such as nationwide and indefinite driving bans on Saturdays and Sundays," Wissing wrote in a letter dated Thursday to coalition parliamentary group leaders.
Nearly six million Germans are living in "energy poverty" because of the abysmal failure of the self-imposed energy crisis, which includes capping energy usage. Subsequently, many people are unable to effectively warm their homes in the winter.
The worst thing about these draconian measures is that they nearly always make the general public miserable. The second worst thing is that there is no evidence showing that any of these policies will do anything to save the planet from the sun exploding.
While Germany kicks out dependable fuel sources and replaces them with unreliable energy, the price of everything is also going up. Because that is what happens when you slash the industry that powers everything in society. When the price of energy goes up, so does everything else.
It is extremely authoritarian that German officials are even thinking about restricting driving privileges. What, are people no longer allowed to go on weekend trips because officials have yet to control the weather? What would the temperature have to be for Germans to not have their driving privileges revoked? I doubt the government even has an answer to that.
Germany is a perfect example of what happens when you let climate alarmists in positions of power to dictate everyday tasks. These people are so arrogant and truly believe that their foolish perspective of utopia will be achieved if they just keep making people a bit more miserable. It is so arrogant, it's dangerous.
Germany is a perfect example of what not to do if you want to control the direction of the wind.
