Karma has had her way with Empire actor Jussie Smollett. I guess I should say former Empire actor. A grand jury today returned 16 felony counts on the gay boy who cried hate crime, proving justice does have a way of catching up with even the crappiest of people.

The grand jury returned two separate sets of charges. The first set are related to what Smollett told officers about the alleged attack, including that the attackers called him racial and homophobic slurs, struck him with their hands, put a noose around his neck, and poured some sort of chemical substance on him.

The second set of charges are related to the second interview Smollett had with police about the alleged attack later that day.

The new charges carry a possible sentence of probation of up to four years. Which is not enough time, in my opinion. It's also very likely he'll get no prison time at all if his lawyers strike the right kind of plea deal. Which is also not sitting well with me.

One thing to keep in mind: Jussie Smollett will forever be known as that guy who faked a hate crime. It's likely he'll never be able to work in Hollywood or music again. Which does sit well with me. Related: Dear Jussie Smollett: You're a Bigoted, Racist, Attention-Seeking Piece of Sh!t.

So if you're out there thinking up ways to get more money or to get ahead, the faking a hate crime and paying for it with a check might not be the way to go. Stick with the tried and true ways of not being a piece of shit.
