The REAL 'Establishment': John Boehner Calls Ted Cruz 'Lucifer.'
Okay so a lot of people are writing about this story, but there's a key detail that many have missed. Allow me to set the stage. In a year where anti-establishment reigns supreme, former speaker John Boehner just endorsed "none of the above" and wants to nominate Paul Ryan in a brokered or contested convention. That'll go over well with people who have been voting for the "anti-establishment" candidates in the primaries. Yes, that was shameless sarcasm. The situation warranted it.
Former Speaker John Boehner said Paul Ryan should be the Republican nominee for president if the party fails to choose a candidate on the first ballot."If we don't have a nominee who can win on the first ballot, I'm for none of the above," Boehner said at the Futures Industry Association conference here.
...I'm for Paul Ryan to be our nominee."
To Paul Ryan's credit, he's actually got his lawyers involved sending cease and desist letters to knock this "Draft Ryan" crap out. If we can believe that. Honestly it's hard to know what to believe these days.
Okay, so that's the part you do know about. But the most important part, that for some odd reason, everyone else seems to just be skimming over is below.
In the same question-and-answer session here, Boehner referred to Ted Cruz as "lucifer." He previously called the Texas senator, who led the failed Republican effort to shut down the government over Obamacare, a “jackass.”
Lucifer. That's right. John Boehner, Mr. Establishment/Betrayal himself, compared Ted Cruz to satan. When asked for comment, Boehner threatened to conquer Cruz through "the power of rock and/or roll."
So we know just how much Boehner despises Ted Cruz but what are his reasons? Well, he just told you. Cruz's opposition to ObamaCare and the government shutdown. In other words, Cruz sticking to his guns and not going along with the "establishment." Also, Cruz did call Mitch McConnell a liar on the floor of the senate. Ballsy? Yes. Hurt feelings from some who can't stand to be opposed? Especially ones prone to pink ties and fits of tears? You better believe it.
John Boehner hates Ted Cruz... for being too conservative.
For contrast, Donald Trump and these two get along quite well, even going as far as bashing Cruz for "being rude to Mitch."
I don't know about you, but I kind of like that Cruz called Mitch a liar. Show of hands, anyone?
Funny that Boehner wants to eliminate Ted Cruz for the same two issues that were responsible for the GOP taking back the House and making Boehner the Speaker of the House in the first place. My, my, memories are short in Washington.
If you're a non-Trump fan and you're wondering "Why does Trump exist in this race?" This is one reason why. Asshats like Boehner who want to buck the will of the people for *insert any reason here.* The people in Washington don't want to upend their golden apple cart with people who they deem unworthy of being there. And for you Trump fans, that includes Ted Cruz, who is about as anti-establishment as you can get (read The Real Reason Ted Cruz was the Big Winner. The One No One's Talking About).
That Trump and Cruz are the two top candidates in the GOP race is indicative of a greater movement. People hate John Boehner, not just because he sucks at pink ties. He's a wimp who refused to stand up to Obama. It's wimps in the GOP who don't stand up to Obama that have given us this Trump phenomenon. In other words, YOU, John Boehner, and people like you, are responsible for Trump in the first place. Don't come crying to the electorate over it when the people are fed up with your pansy ways.
Speaking of Ted Cruz...
