Green Day changes a popular song lyric to launch a slur at JD Vance, though Billie Joe Armstrong should look in the mirror
Green Day lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong wanted you to know how punk he is, so he changed a popular song lyric of his to launch an attack against Vice President JD Vance. And if you are reading this news with a shrug of indifference, you sound like the audience of a Green Day concert.
I hate even giving this any bandwidth, but as someone who once camped out for Green Day tickets just so the first two people in line at Tower Records could be the only ones who got them, I feel it's my duty.
This is the same Armstrong who renounced his citizenship because he's too "thing he called Vance" to understand what the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade actually meant. He's also changed lyrics before, turning the anti-George Bush "I'm not part of your redneck agenda" to "I'm not part of your MAGA agenda." Get it?
Some of you may be too young to remember, but George Bush was the Republican that leftists called "Hitler" before they called Donald Trump "Hitler." Then they cried for Bush, who they now call a good man, to save them from Trump by endorsing whatsherface. To be fair, Democrats have been calling people who they disagree with Hitler literally since the time of Hitler.
Here's Armstrong's latest example of patriotic dissent:

In the song "Jesus of Suburbia," the lyric is "Am I retarded, or am I just overjoyed?"
Armstrong changed it to "Am I retarded, or am I just JD Vance?"
I'm thinking the same thing you are:
What annoys me most about this, outside of the eye-rolling stupidity, is that American Idiot is a great album. It was the only art that came out at that time (calling George Bush "Hitler" before calling Donald Trump "Hitler") that didn't suck. Everyone else just worked "no blood for oil" into a verse-chorus-verse format and rushed it up on MySpace because "George Bush can't stop me" as they shook their fist. Green Day took the time to create a concept album about the era that still hold up, Billie Joe's cringtastic derpery notwithstanding.
That was then. Now, people only remember Green Day when Armstrong says something stupid. It's not even worth outrage. Just pat him on the head and say, "That's cute. Now, be quiet while the grown-ups are talking."
