While our bitterly partisan president calls for more Australian-like gun control, the topic came up on "Morning Joe." We must have gun control! "Common sense" gun control is what we need! When the left is asked to define "common sense"... crickets.

Charles C.W. Cooke destroyed that argument this morning by simply asking, "What gun control would have changed this?" After a long silence, his opponent stammered through several words strung together to form a sentence, in what I believe was designed to be an answer.

“Joe Biden doesn’t know how to fix this problem. I don’t know how to fix this problem. I think it’s fair to say you don’t know how to fix this problem. It’s a very complex question in a country with 300 to 350 million guns on the street. The way they talk is as if they have the answer and there are these recalcitrant forces in the country that say ‘no, no, no,’ even though deep down they know their legislation will work. That’s simply not the case. It’s far more complicated than that.”

When pushed back, Cooke simply asked what gun control law would have prevented this or any other tragedy.

"I'm not an expert in the field.”

Clearly.

Joe Scarborough chimed in, pointing out how Oregon already has background checks but that did not stop the Roseburg shooting, nor did “aggressive gun control laws” prevent the elementary school massacre in Sandy Hook.

So maybe leftists should take a breath before immediately yelling "oooh, people were shot, let me use this to my political advantage!"

Here's a point that I made on the radio show today, and it holds true on this topic more than ever. When leftists tout things as "common sense" which are so clearly, self-evidently true that no logical person would even dare question it...

... question it. Immediately. Make them define their terms clearly and provide examples. This is a perfect example. Leftists all agreed "well of course we need common sense gun control." But when questioned on exactly what "common sense gun control" would be... there were crickets.
