The gym should be a safe space. An actual safe space. Not a room where you hide from opposing viewpoints. A place where you can go to get in shape and do something about your health. Where you can blast music in your headphones and where if it can't be communicated with a nod or hand gesture, don't try and talk to me. It should NOT be a place where you film others working out. This guy wants you to knock that sh*t off.

Our swoll friend goes into all the medical and physical reasons why the man could be walking backward on the treadmill. Plus, a key reason why he may have had paper towels under his headphones. As someone who has short-circuited more than a few pairs with my ear sweat as I bang and clang away, paper towels would have been cheaper.

But this part is key:

What I love that he's doing most of all is minding his own business. Getting a workout in. It blows my mind that people think it's okay to film a stranger at the gym just to post on social media so you can make fun of them for likes and attention. You need to do better. Mind your own business.

I saw a woman one time, over a year into the schmandemic, who had her machine covered in paper towels like it was a toilet seat in Penn Station. I never took my phone out to say "get a load of this dingbat." I judged her in my silence like a normal person.

The fact that our dude on the treadmill is AT the gym means he's making an effort. That should be applauded. Leave the mockery to people who claim physical fitness is problematic. Pay attention to your own workout and leave the people around you alone.
