Watch: Pete Hegseth is your new defense secretary, and the Left is still having a meltdown over it
The Senate confirmed Pete Hegseth as defense secretary on Friday, with Vice President JD Vance casting the tie-breaking vote.
"He shouldn't have to consider the number of Republicans but he had to cast the tie-breaking votes because three voted no," Crowder said.
According to NBC:
The initial vote was 50-50, with three Republicans — Sens. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of Maine — joining all 47 Democrats in voting no.
All three of those Republicans voted yes on Lloyd Austin.
“When your contributive skill is to bump elbows, shake hands, and make deals and compromise, you really shouldn't be representing anybody. [McConnell] provides nothing of value anyway,” Crowder added.
Vance then cast the 51st vote, putting Hegseth over the top and ending weeks of uncertainty over the fate of Trump's controversial pick to lead the Pentagon.
It marked only the second time in history a vice president was needed to break a tie for a Cabinet level nominee. In 2017, then-Vice President Mike Pence broke a 50-50 tie to confirm Betsy DeVos as Education secretary in Trump’s first term.
And, of course, the left is melting down.
“I am very convinced that the attacks are fabricated now. Because if there were any other substantial reasons to oppose it, you would hear about it,” Crowder said.
Firstly, the left has claimed that 'aside from his military qualifications, he is deeply unqualified.'
BREAKING: The Senate has just voted to confirm Pete Hegseth, a drunken, out-of-control abuser, as the weakest Secretary of Defense in history.
This was the closest vote for SecDef, needing the weird couch guy to break the tie.
It's a sad day for America.

"That's all they have, which tells you it's likely made up," Crowder added.
Hegseth has defended war criminals & rejected international law. He’s a prominent advocate for privatizing the VA. He was forced to step down from leading two advocacy groups after repeated allegations of financial mismanagement, sexual harassment & alcohol abuse. I’m voting NO.
— Bernie Sanders (@SenSanders) January 25, 2025
What makes Sanders' statement so disingenuous is that he really means he does not believe veterans should have a choice by allowing them to take their care to any network hospital rather than requiring them to stay at government-run facilities.
"It should be a credit where the veterans can take it to any in-network hospital instead of designating them to one," Crowder added. "Nothing is revolutionary about putting more money into a broken system."
Stay tuned: Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s confirmation hearings are on Wednesday and Thursday, and Tulsi Gabbard's hearing is on Thursday.
