We want to do a very faithful but contemporized adaptation of the book, but our idea was to do it with all girls rather than boys. It is a timeless story that is especially relevant today, with the interpersonal conflicts and bullying, and the idea of children forming a society and replicating the behavior they saw in grownups before they were marooned.

Okay, but girls and boys behave differently. And Golding's book followed boys for an actual reason. Not the least of which is girls do not behave like boys. How is this hard?

Also, the book is about BOYS on an ISLAND who form a society of BOYS. And they turn out savage because sometimes that's what BOYS DO, especially when there are no girls around. Girls simply do not behave the same way, and to make a movie about a story based on how boys behave, but recasting as girls? It's not the same freaking story.

Anyone who thinks girls would act the same was as boys, when left to their own devices on an island, clearly missed their own childhood. Or sniffed too much glue.
