The debate often focuses on the illogical premise that kids can't be socialized if they don’t attend public schools.

“Many of you are more capable of doing it than you realize. It can be a beautiful thing and it is a great leg up that you can provide to your children,” Crowder said.

Over 3 million children in the United States are homeschooled and that number is increasing.

“If that number were to get to 20, 25, 30%, our country would be far better off,” Crowder added. “Homeschooling is better than public schools.”

One claim people often make is that homeschooling is expensive and is only a luxury afforded to the wealthy.

According to parents.com, “The average cost of homeschooling ranges from $500 to $2,500 per student annually,” meaning you can tailor it to the needs of your children. And over 60 percent of homeschooled families earn less than $75,000 a year. Additionally, this often occurs when only one parent is in the labor force.

“It does come down to priorities-it means there will be some sacrifices but is it worth it?” Crowder said. “If you are making more than $80,000 you absolutely can homeschool. Most people who homeschool make less than that.”

Many studies also show that kids thrive in a learning environment of less than three hours.

“Public school is not designed to be the best way, the most efficient way, or honestly the healthiest way for your kids to learn. It's designed to allow you to work and to be a babysitter but that comes with a lot of baggage,” Crowder said.

Not only do kids who are homeschooled turn out fine, but they actually develop better than kids in public school.
