Vegans, as a whole, have a questionable track record when it comes to decision making (see Famous Anti-Meat Vegan Who Climbed Mt. Everest? Yep, She Died...). Obviously not all vegans are slack-jawed ninnies with cold, lifeless eyes. Black eyes, like a doll's eyes. Speaking of lifeless, this baby veggie-eater was being raised the vegan way by his parents. Aaand he almost died because of it.

A 14-month-old Italian baby, who was reportedly fed a vegan diet, has been removed from his parents after arriving at a Milan hospital seriously malnourished. The baby... was taken to the hospital by his grandparents a week ago and doctors were shocked to see the poor state of the baby's health and a body weight only just slightly higher than a newborn. Blood tests revealed the child was severely malnourished with calcium levels barely adequate to survive.

He is now recovering in hospital. It is not the first time that vegan diets have provoked alarm in Italy. Four children have been hospitalised within the last 18 months...

Look, it's one thing for you to choose a crappy diet for yourself. If you want to impose your annoying vegan-ness onto other adults, fine (watch Hilarious! If Meat-Eaters Acted Like Pompous Vegans). That's your prerogative. Albeit a stupid one that puts your health at risk. Also an annoying one that ruins dinner parties. But to force those questionable choices onto your child - a baby - is a whole other can of grass-fed worms. But seriously; subverting your child's safety just so you can claim some moral high ground? Not good. Even if that moral high ground is animal-cruelty-free and organic. Because the animal that really matters is your baby. See how that works?

Can we just take a moment to address something? This is child abuse, just like forcing your kid to be gay (yes that really happened). Same crappy parenting - different stupid cause. Also, this baby almost starved to death. So there's that. Can't say I blame the hospital for going full WTF and taking him away from his parents. Apparently this isn't the first time veganism has screwed over a kid and it won't be the last. So not only is it completely wimpy and unfun, but it's been officially ruled as abusive. Hurray for science!

Vegans have the right to neglect themselves, sure. Neglecting their children? Not so much. You can't deny a kid's right to bacon. That's God-given.
