Watch: Senator not only admits she's limiting your freedom, she brags about it "for the common good"
I'm glad this is happening to Ireland right now. Not to Ireland specifically, but happening so Americans can see what could happen here if we aren't careful. We have an election next year where we need to be thinking long and hard, comparing candidate policies and past records of electoral victory, and making sure the Left is removed from the White House.
If not? Instead of Irish Senator Pauline O'Reilly, this could easily be Joe Biden or social media influencer Rep. AOC. By "easily," I mean it sounds like them now. But we have a Bill of Rights (for now), and Ireland does not.
"When you think about it, all law, all legislation is about the restriction of freedom. That's exactly what we're doing here. We are restricting freedom. But we're doing it for the common good. "
She then says's the job of the government to restrict freedoms for the common good if your views on "other people's identities" make them insecure and cause them, quote, "discomfort."
And by "your views," that could mean up to and including any memes you have on your phone.
The devil is in the details and how the government defines "someone's identity" and "your views." Someone could identify as someone "who came to Ireland to be jobless on welfare for a decade" and stabbed children. Your views could be of someone who thinks that is bad. In Ireland, you would be the villain.
In the UK, someone could identify as a woman looking to abort another one of her choices. Your views could be that of a Christian who is praying the woman makes better decisions. In the UK, they arrest you for praying.
Quite frequently:
Watch: Another Brit gets FINED for silent prayer, this time an Army vet
In America, we have a Bill of Rights (for now) and Free Speech (also for now). If not, and someone identified as a boy who couldn't cut it playing boy's sports while your views are that biology is a thing, and your daughter's safety is more important than some dude's delusions, you're the one who could be arrested. Right now, the only penalty is that your blog posts on the matter get throttled.
There is not a single radical progressive and/or moderate Democrat (but I repeat myself) that doesn't agree with Senator Brigit's speech. If we as Americans aren't careful, it will become more than just a speech here.
