JD Vance's son mean-mugging the camera while forced to spend his birthday with India's PM takes over the Internet
When you are a five-year-old and it's your birthday, you want toys. You want Spider-Man or one of the PAW Patrol pups to show up. You want a bounce house. You want to overdose on sugar. Poor Vivek Vance got stuck spending his birthday at a work event for his parents and was NOT happy about it. He doesn't care who knows it either, in a photo that makes the Vice President and the Second Lady THE most relatable couple in all of the United States of the Americas.
This also makes it only a matter of time before the journalisming industry use the Vance kids as part of their political attacks.
JD Vance made his first overseas trip as Vice President on Monday to an AI Summit in Paris. While Vivek didn't get a visit from Spider-Man, he did hang out with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Prime Minister Modi was gracious and kind, and our kids really enjoyed the gifts. I’m grateful to him for the wonderful conversation. https://t.co/wto64QM9qa

Little Man was NOT having it.
One can only imagine what this kid is thinking. pic.twitter.com/sIVqdTcSpc

Anyone who has kids or has taken photos with kids -- really, anyone who isn't a childless cat lady -- can relate. We have all been there trying to get family photos where that one kid was in a mood. Or, even if they were the only ones who thought their funny face was funny, they were gonna make it at the last minute anyway and deal with the consequences.
Once, my five-year-old nephew snuck the double middle finger into a group shot while vacationing in Florida. No one noticed until the picture made its way to Facebook. I've never been more proud of him.
Responses to Vivek not having the happiest of birthdays were unanimous. Mostly. There were a few derpity derp H1 B VISAS derp derp comments. The overwhelming majority were moved by the familiar photo.
"We all have pictures of our kids with that face."
"It's always tough to get everyone in a family picture to actually smile, even with a world leader in the photo!"
"Can I have my iPad back now?"
Little man mean muggin. I love it 😂

While those of us who are political nerds like Vance for the way he owns the libs with much aplomb, don't underestimate how much being a parent of three young kids will help connect with apolitical parents across the country. Again, that's why it's only a matter of time before the journalisming industry finds something wrong with it.
Vance is incredibly relatable to Americans with families.
He just got off a long flight with his kids, clearly exhausted and in pajamas.
Elon Musk and Vance are among the most powerful people on earth, yet are single-handedly normalizing children in public.

This moment with JD Vance's son is iconic. A JFK Jr moment. pic.twitter.com/FT518Q3NLW

If the Trump Administration is smart, and I think they are, they should make JD the point man on fixing the issues plaguing most young families in America. Like, say, trying to be able to afford a home.
I never thought about this until @OldRowSwig tweeted a few charts on it.
JD Vance would be the perfect person to head up figuring out how to fix it. https://t.co/cKiDb7KCJ3

He and Trump can discuss that when he gets home. For now, I hope Vivek's birthday got a little better. Maybe the gift from PM Modi was new Roblox figures.
