Jeffrey Marsh is back with another hot take: J.K. Rowling is a vicious bully who victimizes herself to victimize others. That's right, folks. J.K. Rowling, the woman who opened a rape center for women (and only women) and rescued Afghan girls from the Taliban, is actually a big meanie poopie head.

"Ms. J.K. Rowling needs to continually paint herself as a victim so that she can continue to victimize other people," Marsh claimed. "I'm sure you saw the letter that went to The New York Times from their own writers that said, 'Hey, New York Times, could you please stop being so transphobic in your everything?"

"And the next day, they published, 'In Defense of J.K. Rowling," a puffy piece that goes, glosses right over her history of intense transphobia."

Marsh concluded, "This is what bullies do. They paint themselves as the victim so that they can victimize others."

Er, actually, J.K. Rowling didn't "paint herself as the victim". A transgender author actually threatened to slit her throat. I'd say that's some pretty clear-cut victimization.

The letter Marsh refers to was sent last month by nearly 1,000 contributors. Signatories included Human Rights Campaign, PFLAG, Transgender Law Center, Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund, Women’s March, Lena Dunham, and Jameela Jamil. The letter called on the Times to "improve its coverage of transgender people [...] after more than a year of irresponsible, biased news and opinion pieces about the transgender community".

The "puffy piece", 'In Defense of J.K. Rowling', is an op-ed that quotes several pro-trans statements from Rowling. It then details her new podcast, "The Witch Trials of J.K. Rowling". The author argues that the accusations of "transphobia" against Rowling are absurd and even dangerous, as Rowling has had direct threats of violence, people coming to her house, and has had her address posted online.

So no, Rowling isn't a bully, nor is she trying to victimize anyone. But good try.
