Jimmie Walker Criticizes 'Comedians' Who Can't Stop Bashing Trump
Modern comedy tends to be primarily focused on boo-hooing about our tangerine-hued commander-in-chief and pushing leftism. As opposed to, you know, telling jokes that are funny. Entire stand-up specials involve "comics" nixing the knee-slappers in favor of ranting about the horrors of being a lesbian in Trump's America.
Jimmie Walker from Good Times spoke out about on this very issue:
Jimmie Walker doesn't shy away from President Donald Trump in his stand-up act. Only Walker's Trump gags are meant to make people laugh, not inflame half the crowd. The Good Times alum, 71, says that makes him different than most comics in the Age of Trump.
"I do Trump stuff, but it's not as anti [Trump] as everyone else," Walker says of his left-leaning peers. "They're not even jokes, they're just strong opinions that they hate him ... I'm not in that bag ... a lot of guys feel they can take off from their act for five minutes by saying, 'Trump stinks.'"
"I don't think you'll ever see a pro-Trump comic … it must be anti Trump. That's the law," he adds.
Well, that was DYN-O-MITE! All the beers to Jimmie.
I don't think anyone's suggesting comics should avoid making funnies at the Donald's expense. God knows there's plenty of things to mock. Though, "Donald Trump is a gay-bashing, misogynist racist" without a clever punchline following it leaves something to be desired.
Comics seem to have forgotten their first and foremost job is to be funny. If they wish to inject their anti-Trumpery into the act, that's all well-and-good. Though, when the being funny part takes a backseat to the "I hate Trump" narrative, peeps who are just looking to be entertained feel ripped off.
Those "comics" shouldn't be surprised then when people start turning against them:
