Jimmy Carter criticizes US-World Relations... under Barack Obama?!
Last week, Jimmy Carter gave an interview to Aspen Institute President and CEO Walter Isaacson. During his hour long interview, the former President had some tough words for... President Obama. Yes you read that correctly. In particular, President Carter believes Barack Obama has hurt our relations with foreign nations.
Yes, that President Carter. The one who orchestrated the foreign relations nightmares with the Somoza regime in Nicaragua, the Shah in Iran and in relations with the USSR, catastrophes found among myriad others in his 'Greatest Hits' list. That guy.
Check out this clip from the interview:
"On the world stage, I think (President Obama's accomplishments) they've been minimal."
Keep in mind ladies and gentlemen, that this is Jimmy Carter speaking.
"On the world stage, just to be objective about it as I can, I can’t think of many nations in the world where we have a better relationship now than we did when he took over."
Again, important to note that this is Jimmy Carter.
"If you look at Russia, if you look at England, if you look at China, if you look at Egypt and so forth... we have not improved our relationship with individual countries and I would say that the United States’s influence and prestige and respect in the world is probably lower than it was six or seven years ago."
Just to confirm, that is still Jimmy freaking Carter saying these things. And best of all, he's right about this one.
