John Cleese is a legend in comedy. He's also been on an anti-cancel culture kick as of late, what with comedy being a popular target of pro-cancel culture twats. Cleese is bringing his controversial idea that "life is supposed to be fun" to GB News. It's allegedly the British version of Fox News. That's the point the Hollywood Reporter wants to drive home. You know, what with Fox News being evil and scary.

The article announcing Cleese's new show was typical of a leftwing publication when someone who has a different opinion than whatever progressives believe this week gets a job. But these lines piss me off:

"The former Monty Python hero..," "John Cleese, the former Monty Python heavyweight..."

Go fuck yourself. John Cleese is STILL a Monty Python Hero. John Cleese will never stop being a Monty Python hero, no matter how many tweets he sends that the left disagrees with. Not to mention, the same people who attack Cleese for being anti-cancel culture today also want to cancel Monty Python.

Cleese says he chose GB News, which he says is "not a right-wing channel, it’s a free speech channel" because had he signed with the government-run BBC, "I wouldn’t get five minutes into the first show without being canceled or censored." OR, possibly even arrested. They can do that in England. Arrest you for saying something "mean" on the internet, or posting a meme that "causes someone anxiety."

Lost in the outrage over John Cleese thinking cancel culture is silly is that he remains reliably liberal. He says anti-Donald Trump and Boris Johnson things. I'm guessing he isn't enamored by Liz Truss. He's gone after Ted Cruz. If GB News is indeed the "British Fox News," most of his opinions go against what the audience will be tuning in for.

The difference is one side can disagree with Cleese over most things, yet still have a laugh with him over the things we agree with. The other side, the writing for The Hollywood Reporter side, demands pure ideological compliance or else.
