Credit where it's due because if Ron DeSantis went beastmode on a Leftist reporter like this we'd be celebrating. We never knew John Kirby, communications director for the NSC, had this in him. He usually doesn't. And I'm sure he said other dumb things yesterday. But this video earns him a modicum of respect. 47% respect. Not quite 50.

Kirby tends to get called when WH press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre needs a man to either do her job or clean up after her. Like this week, where she said she's seen no evidence of antisemitism, yet alleged Islamophobia was running rampant. Then claimed she didn't hear the question that she answered directly.

Kirby answered a question directly on Friday. President Biden admitted this week that, yes, innocents might die in the Israel-Hamas war. Progressive activist group the Council of American-Islamic Relations demanded an apology for Biden being insensitive and harsh. A journalismer wanted to know if she could get that apology. John Kirby responded that they haven't seen harsh yet:

"What’s harsh — what’s harsh is the way Hamas is using people as human shields. What’s harsh is taking a couple of hundred hostages and leaving families and anxious, waiting and worrying to figure out where their loved ones are. What's harsh, is dropping in on a music festival and slaughtering a bunch of young people just trying to enjoy an afternoon. I could go on and on. That's what's harsh. That is what's harsh and being honest about the fact that there have been civilian casualties and that there likely will be more is being honest ... It would be helpful if Hamas would let [Gazans] leave....We know that there are thousands waiting to leave Gaza writ large and Hamas is preventing them from doing it. That is what is harsh."

That is as blunt and brutal an answer as you can give. People on the Left either don't recognize how different things are this time or don't care. We know how the script usually plays out. Hamas attacks Israel. "Both sides" are told to show restraint. Israel returns fire. The global community turns on Israel.

The key difference is that Hamas attacks usually tend to involve missiles, maybe a car bomb or an IED. This time Hamas raped, murdered, beheaded, mutilated, and kidnapped women and children. Not only that, they shared the content on social media.

I'm glad the White House, for at least these one minute and forty-nine seconds, recognizes things are different now. Even if Hamas sympathizing reporters and Democrat activist organizations don't.
