"Trust the science" gets thrown around by leftists a lot. Not trust science. Trust "the" science. It's a nice way for leftists to tell you to trust whatever they want you to trust that week and be sanctimonious about it. When it comes to politicians telling you to trust "the science," Jordan Peterson says no. Don't do that.

He sat down with the bossman to go into detail about why not.

"Politicians are in some sense abdicating their responsibility where they are forcing scientific people to make what are essentially political decisions. ... Because politicians are using these experts as proxies for pushing forward their own ideological positions. And that's a very dangerous misuse of science."

Like, and I'm just spitballing here, Joe Biden using the CDC to tell landlords they can't evict people who don't pay their rent. Or the teacher's unions demanding the CDC mandate masks on children. Or anyone claiming "something" has to be done about guns. In all cases, the CDC is considered "the science" and we can't argue with "the science."

Before you get to these next bars from Peterson, I should point something out. There were people who, from the beginning of the pandemic, thought the "public health crisis" was a trojan horse for leftists to push climate change regulations. By people, I mean my editor Courtney. Courtney is the one who told us so.

"You see that in the climate change discussion too. The insistence is "here is the problem" and "here is the magnitude of the problem." It's a "moral issue" and you "have to accept that or you're not a good person." You're a "bad person" fundamentally. But the part of the reason that insistence is there is because there is a pack of solutions at hand in that person's imagination that are usually ideological in nature. ... If you have that ideological set of solutions then you're going to be extraordinarily tempted to co-opt the force of the scientific endeavor as a justification for you political ambitions."

We all better be ready for what comes next. I'll give you a hint. "The science" will claim it's another public health crisis.
