Buffalo Bills QB testifies to awakening after Damar Hamlin recovery: 'God is real'
Two weeks ago when Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin went into cardiac arrest after a collision, Americans came together in prayer. Sure, there were haters on Twitter who were all like "derpity derp, pray to science." But normal people were openly praying and talking about God in a way I don't quite remember happening in America. There was even an actual prayer -- an actual Christian prayer -- said on ESPN. Yes, that ESPN.
Bills QB Josh Allen felt it. And after saying "God is real" after last Sunday's game, attempting to explain what he felt on the Kyle Brandt's Basement Podcast.
Josh Allen talks emotional week, Damar Hamlin & Wild Card matchup | Kyle Brandt’s Basementyoutu.be
I haven’t been the most devoted Christ-follower in my life, and I’ve had my different beliefs and thoughts and ideas and stuff like that, but something got hold of me there, and it was extremely powerful, that I couldn’t deny. ... I’m extremely moved. I don’t really have the words to explain it.
Nothing but respect for MY quarterback.
Allen is almost there, but not quite: "spirituality," "higher power," "not going to judge." He sounds like he is trying to express what he believes while still wanting not to "offend" people who feel different. But he's trying. And when our culture is so afraid to admit to God's existence out loud, trying counts.
While Allen may not have the words to explain it, Coach Tony Dungy does:
These comments by Josh Allen prove to me that Romans 8:28 is true-God can use all things—even devastating things—for good. I think Damar Hamlin’s injury got a lot of people’s attention. I’m praying for Damar’s full recovery & that more people see what Josh saw—That God is real! https://t.co/kQblVRrxHS

Damar Hamlin is out of the hospital and will no doubt be there as the Bills utterly disembowel the Dolphins on Sunday. God is real. But Miami beating the Bills at home would be the work of someone else.
