There was a 329 percent increase in juveniles arrested between 2022 and 2023 in Takoma Park, Maryland. But the solution to this is rather simple, according to city officials. Rather than holding people accountable or encouraging proactive policing, the Takoma Park Police Department will hand out free Slurpee coupons for good behavior.

According to DC News Now:

The Takoma Park Police Department has partnered with 7-Eleven to roll out its “Operational Chill” campaign where police officers hand out free Slurpee tickets to children in the area who are caught doing good deeds.

I doubt that Operation Chill will have much of a statistically significant benefit to the city but I digress.

The program was created in the 90s in efforts of having “law enforcement officers create positive connections by awarding a Slurpee drink coupon to kids they observe performing good deeds or exhibiting positive behavior,” the store chain wrote in a statement.

On the surface, there is nothing wrong with giving kids free slurpees when they do good things. However, it’s the fact that there is a 300 percent increase in crime and officials are celebrating as if this will do much of anything to combat that.

According to data released by the Montgomery County Department of Police (MCPD), the number of juvenile arrestees increased by 329% between 2022 and 2023. The police department adds juvenile violent crime suspects nearly tripled at 178% with juvenile victims hitting 216% that fiscal year.

“This is a good program,” Takoma Park police Lt. Cynthia Williams said. “Especially during the summer months when crime tends to go up a little bit because schools are out.”

No surprise but Takoma Park is the most liberal area in the state. It’s actually referred to as “The Berkeley of the East” or “The People’s Republic of Takoma Park.” That is how much the city leans to the left and they are proud of it.

According to a 2015 article in MoCo360, “Takoma Park was referred to as a ‘hippie haven’ that ‘has declared itself a nuclear-free zone and a sanctuary city where illegal immigrants are protected.’”

Interesting how a city that prioritizes making sure that no human is illegal ends up with a 300 percent increase in crime. Do you think there might be some correlation with that?

Progressives are such unserious people it’s not even funny. Not only do they not care that they have an epidemic of lawlessness among their juvenile population, but they are essentially setting them up for failure as they fail to do anything beneficial for them.

If officials truly cared they would be doing everything in their power to prevent crime, but they don't care because of racism or something.

In a place where "juvenile violent crime suspects nearly tripled," you would hope that officials did more than hand out 7/11 coupons but that's not how liberals handle things, as they physically refuse to hold anyone accountable for their actions. But this is the best The Berkeley of the East could do and at leasy they are pretending to care.
