Watch: TikTok doesn't want your kids to see this little man fixing cars and being productive
The dumbest things trend on TikTok. Something critics say is by design thanks to the Communist Chinese owner of the app. It's why this video that's making the rounds on X stands out. A boy, maybe like 12 years old, doing something EPIC and SIIIIIICK! He's fixing cars.
No silly dances. No lipsyncing to songs at 3X speed. A kid claims his dad let him pick anything out of his junkyard. If he fixed it up, he could keep it. So he did!
It's not an apples-to-apples comparison. This looks like an Instagram video judging by the text. But it still got me thinking. The biggest TikTok trend right now is parents abusing their little children by smashing eggs on their heads. Before that, whatever that "ice cream so good, gang gang" nonsense was. I promised myself I wasn't going to learn about it, and am not going to start now.
Take all three of these videos. Now listen to Andrew Schulz exposing the dark side of the Communist Chinese-owned app:
"Apparently in China, the way that the algorithm works, it doesn't reward people doing stupid dances and playing with their dog. The algorithm is rewarding that they want to see their youth do. So, people doing cool engineering sh*t. People doing cool science sh*t. But if you're China and you wanted to disrupt another country, wouldn't you reward the dumbest possible sh*t on that app. Twerkin. People doing stupid dances. You want the next level of youth to go "I can be famous doing something that is worthless to society."
You can't escape the egg smashing or "ice cream so good." I only saw the video of this kid because I have @CatchUpFeed bookmarked, who found the video accidentally.
Even if the video with the kid is creatively edited (allow for missing context, yadda yadda), viral success could still lead to your kid wanting to learn how to fix cars with you. Instead of having their attention span decimated fifteen-second song bites at a time.
It makes ya think.
