Killer Mike speaking out against gun control isn't all that shocking. Though I was pleasantly surprised to hear it from Bill Maher. Maybe Maher's right: when you have the gun conversation more than thirty seconds after a shooting, there's less of a desire to politicize. Though Robert Reich tried his best. Idiots gotta idiot.

TRIGGER WARNING: There are thoughts expressed here you may not agree with. Mike and Maher argue against gun control from the leftist perspective. Citing some narrative points you may not like. That's fair. But the crux or their arguments are similar to the arguments we make on the right. Plus the Second Amendment is so regularly under fire (pun totally intended), I'm happy to welcome any ally I can get.

BILL MAHER: One of the problems gun people have with liberals talking about guns us that liberals don't know what they're talking about when they're talking about guns.

KILLER MIKE: At all.

At this point, Robert Reich sat there confused. Like he was wondering when Alec Baldwin was coming out to make fun of Trump. He tried to get his tired old lefty talking points loaded in his double stack clip. But mentally he wished he was grabbing the early bird special at Denny's. Flapjacks or a BLT. Hmmm...

Most interesting was when Hitler was brought up. It's common to hear from the right "Liberals think Trump is Hitler, yet they want his government to take everyone's guns away." You rarely hear the left make the same argument. Yet here comes Killer Mike to the plate.

KILLER MIKE: You're saying to a population of people [Trump] is a tyrant. You're living under tyrannical times. And you're comparing him to Adolf Hitler. When you say that to my community, I must take it seriously.

BILL MAHER: I've been saying for a long time Donald Trump is bringing fascism to this country. If you really believe that Donald Trump is an authoritarian leader capable of using force to suppress the opposition, I wonder if liberals are going to be rethinking their opinions about guns a little bit.

I doubt they will. But the intellectual honesty is refreshing. You may be Donald Trump's biggest fan. Fine. Replace his name above with Obama. Clinton. Elizabeth Warren. Take any president or theoretical president of your choice, and the argument Killer Mike and Bill Maher are making are still solid: the Second Amendment is about preventing government tyranny.

The Second Amendment is up there with the First Amendment when it comes to both importance and things leftists want treat like an unwanted pregnancy. ANY ally is welcome. Even if we vote differently.
