People who are serious about police reform have a number of policies and issues they can choose from. Tackling the power of public employee unions is one. Making sure our officers are better trained is another. Or, you can have a thirty year old Arnold Schwarzenegger movie banned from a Portland movie theater because it makes cops look too good. Unsurprisingly, in Portland they chose option C (see THIS PORTLAND POLICE OFFICER CONFIRMS WHAT WE KNOW: THE REAL PROBLEM IS WHITE LIBERALS and 'PEACEFUL PROTESTER' IN PORTLAND ACCIDENTALLY SET ANOTHER 'PEACEFUL PROTESTER' ON FIRE).

Kindergarten Cop, a movie where AHNOLD plays a cop who goes undercover in a kindergarten class (that's literally the story), will no longer be shown at the NW Film Center. Yes, the "it's not a tumor" movie. All because of a single idiot complaining.

National reckoning on overpolicing is a weird time to revive Kindergarten Cop. IRL, we are trying to end the school-to-prison pipeline. There's nothing entertaining about the presence of police in schools, which feeds the 'school-to-prison' pipeline in which African American, Latinx and other kids of color are criminalized rather than educated.

It's true Kindergarten Cop is only a movie. So are Birth of a Nation and Gone With the Wind, but we recognize films like those are not 'good family fun.' They are relics of how pop culture feeds racist assumptions.

Let's set aside the fact that Kindergarten Cop should never be in the same sentence as Gone with the Wind for any reason. Cinema is a snapshot of the time and culture from when the movie was released. While some elements may seem problematic to today's sensitivities, movies and other forms of art help us show how far we've come. For example, while this totally rationale person — who I'm sure is a blast to have at parties — is focused on the "school to prison" pipeline, she totally ignored the movies dated references to gender.

February 3, 1959 was the day the music died. August 5, 2020 was the day satire died. I mean, satire has been dead for a while, but 2020 has been one big necrophiliac orgy. "SJW bans 'Kindergarten Cop' because it promotes a 'school to prison pipeline'" sounds like a joke that would be too stupid to make on our show. Yet not only is it an actual thing that a permaoffended woke twat actually thinks, it's an actual thing THEY GOT A MOVIE BANNED OVER!

But really, why stop there? Let's ban Turner & Hooch because liking dogs humanizes cops too much. Starsky and Hutch I'm sure promotes rape culture if we squint at it long enough. And Super Troopers, really we should just arrest the entire cast for crimes against humanity.

I miss the good old days when we all laughed at people who wanted art banned for stupid reasons. WE may still laugh, but there are idiots who actually take these other idiots seriously. That's not as funny.
