Latino cop being labeled as 'racist' for only arresting Latino drug dealers, and he could get fired
Sgt. Daniel Solorzano has fourteen years on the job, twelve of which were spent in the Hispanic San Franciso district of Tenderloin. The Mexican and Nicaraguan officer, whose first language is Spanish, is being accused of racially profiling because all of the drug dealers he arrests in this Hispanic district are Hispanic.
Or they may be Latinx. As I said, this is San Francisco.
The public defender's office is using the new "California Racial Justice Act" to claim it is racial profiling for this Hispanic officer to arrest nothing but Latinx drug dealers in this Hispanic neighborhood. Solorzano arrested 53 people for drug offenses in the area from 2020 to 2022. All those arrested were Latinxes.
If the court rules that Solorzano arrested drug dealers with "racial animus," all of the drug dealers he arrested could be back on the streets dealing drugs, and Solorzano could be fired.
Tracy McCray, president of the San Francisco Police Officer's Association and someone who, like Solorzano, is of non-caucasian heritage, tells WTVU of the officer:
Like a lot of officers, he's damn good at what he does and I'm proud to support him.
Rene Colorado, executive director of Tenderloin Merchants Association and also a non-caucasian, tells KTVU he is always calling about the drug dealers in the area.
99.9 percent of the drug dealers in the Tenderloin are Hispanic. The majority are immigrants from Honduras. Residents want police to be more aggressive in the Tenderloin.
That's the great contradiction about progressive cities like San Franciso. Residents want leaders to do something about crime and about the smell of crack and poop. The leaders have other ideas because they keep getting reelected no matter how much of a dumpster fire the city turns into.
Now, someone who did something about crime might lose his job for doing it too well. You get the city and laws you vote for.
