Liberal Blasts Jerry Seinfeld's Netflix Special for Not Being Woke Enough
Jerry Seinfeld's Netflix Special, Jerry Before Seinfeld, has just dropped. And there's apparently a complaint that he's just telling jokes as opposed to pushing an agenda. Who does Seinfeld think he is, a comedian? A**hole. Not that Seinfeld has ever been political, save for speaking out about PC ruining comedy (see Jerry Seinfeld Claims Liberal Colleges are Killing Comedy Because… and Jerry Seinfeld Doubles Down On Liberal, PC Comments. Jabs Seth Meyers). But still. This IS 2017, am I right?
Comedians aren't allowed to just tell jokes.
The comedian’s first Netflix special finds him still flawlessly delivering comedy about nothing, but at a time when our cultural appetite craves more than airplane peanuts.
No, not "our" cultural appetite. YOUR cultural appetite. OUR cultural appetite is hungry for comedians flawlessly delivering comedy.
But whether he’s deep into a cringe-y monologue about how all young men should understand the power of a bouquet of flowers (“If there were no flowers, the earth would be populated by men and lesbians!”), or equating coming out to his parents as a comedian as a “gay closet moment,” he’s revisiting a style of comedy that passes muster as a timepiece on a TV show made in a certain time, but in today’s day and age might have people complaining that there really is something wrong with that. That might be the crux of the problem with Jerry Before Seinfeld. It’s certainly pleasant, and anyone who is a fan of his will chuckle their way through it. But it’s unclear what we’re being sold here.
Jokes? Aren't jokes what we're being sold? Is this guy saying no jokes for us?
All these years later, and all that money richer, Seinfeld is still doing comedy about nothing. The question is whether that still works today when everything, even Jerry Seinfeld jokes, is mandated to stand for something.
This is progressive leftism, or leftist progressivism, in 2017. Entertainment, especially comedy, exists to validate their worldview. They did it with Dave Chappelle (see Dave Chappelle Tells ‘Transphobic’ Jokes. Leftists RAGE and Dave Chappelle Returns. Leftists Whine About ‘Offensive’ Jokes. Prove Why Everyone Hates Them). You saw it at the Emmy's over the weekend. You see it when guys like Joe Rogan are called "conservative" podcasters just because they have conversations with conservatives.
And you see it now, where a comedian who has never been known for being political, gets criticized for not being political.
Leftism is ruining everything. And if you're not keen on letting it happen to your Netflix special, you'll be outed. Despite a career of making jokes about nothing.
Pro-tip to leftists determined to ruin everything: jokes about nothing are some of the best jokes out there. On occasion, people like to leave politics to make jokes of mastering their own domain, or pawning off muffin stumps on the homeless. Wherein the homeless are not victims of the patriarchy, Mulva.
Helllloooooo?!
