I trust my dogs with many things. I trust them to bark at absolutely anything, to steal food off my coffee table if I turn my back for more than thirty seconds, and to wake me up with a cold nose to the face if I try to sleep in. What I don't trust them to do is drive me to work in the morning. But then, I guess they've never given me a reason not to trust them.

That must've been what an Israeli man in Jerusalem was thinking.

"Hey, I trust this guy to stop someone attempting to break into my house. Why can't Fido give driving a go?"

And then he gave Fido a go.

Now, the doggo doesn't do too terribly. As it turns out, it doesn't require opposable digits to get a good enough hold on the steering wheel, which is slightly surprising. I'm not saying I'm about to toss my German shepherd the keys to my Colorado, but it's nice to know that, in a pinch, he might be able to give me a lift.

I'm joking, of course. If I handed George (the German shepherd) the keys--even if he could drive well--would probably go around just trying to run over small furry animals that he would otherwise try to chase on foot. My insurance is good, but I don't imagine they'd be paying out if my dog decided to run through a few yards trying to crush a rabbit. They probably wouldn't even believe me.

The police have arrested our Israeli friend for his poor judgment, charging him with "reckless driving and operating a motor vehicle without a current safety certificate," per Not the Bee. But then, the dog was driving, so I'm going to characterize these as trumped-up charges.
