“Patriarchy in a Nutshell": 'Barbie’ Fans Cry Sexism After Margot Robbie Was Shut Out From Oscar Nomination
“Barbie'' was the highest-grossing movie of 2023 at $636,225,983. Margot Robbie’s salary was $12.5 million. That was just from her salary. Her current estimated net worth is $60 million. This is a $20 million increase from 2023, which is mainly a result of the $50 million she is believed to have made in total off Barbie.
'Barbie' Fans Outraged Over Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig's Oscar Snubs: 'Patriarchy in a Nutshell'www.youtube.com
But despite having $60 million to her name, despite getting $50 million in just one year from one movie alone, despite alllllll of that, she is sadly still an oppressed woman and a victim of the invisible phenomenon known as “the patriarchy.”
Clearly, that was sarcasm. But critics are not being sarcastic when they claim that the reason Robbie and Greta Gerwig didn't receive nominations for this year's Oscars is because of sexism, the patriarchy, and obviously because they are both women.
Obviously.
That said, some women in Afghanistan and Iran would like to have a word. Because it turns out that basing your entire reality off whether or not you get a participation trophy, does not really add up to what you would call “sexism” or “oppression” in their eyes.
“Movie fans are outraged — and confused — as to why Barbie lead Margot Robbie and the hit film's director, Greta Gerwig, didn't receive nominations for this year's Oscars.
The nominees for every category were announced on the morning of Tuesday, January 23.
Meanwhile, Robbie's counterpart Ryan Gosling received a nod for Best Supporting Actor, and America Ferrera is up for Best Supporting Actress.”
Do people not realize that Gosling and Robbie were in two different categories? I don’t even watch the Oscars and I know that. How can Gosling and Robbie be compared when they are not even competing against each other? He was literally competing with men and she was literally competing with women. And she lost to women. It is not like it was a trans person or something.
I will admit that I have not watched Barbie, but I have seen a couple of scenes. And although it was a box office hit, the acting is not what I would call “impressive”. So it is possible that maybe that had something to do with it?
You know the interesting part about this is that one of the people nominated over Robbie was Annette Bening for her playing a lesbian swimmer in “Nyad”. So are we no longer lifting LGBT voices or what? Would that not make it homophobic if Robbie were to win over her?
“The reveal sent social media into a frenzy, with one person writing on X, the platform formerly named Twitter, "America Ferrera in but Margot Robbie out is genuinely one of the weirdest acting decisions related to one movie that I can remember.’
‘They really just snubbed Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie for Barbie while nominating Ryan Gosling for playing Ken. Patriarchy in a nutshell,’ declared another fan, while a third noted, ‘Ryan getting a nomination but Margot didn’t just prove the entire plot of Barbie.’
‘Ryan Gosling getting a nomination and Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig NOT getting nominations feels like something happening in the Barbie movie to further illustrate the point of the Barbie movie,’ an additional moviegoer stated.”
Okay, you get the picture. Clearly, her fans are not the brightest bulbs in the box.
Honestly, those comments are so incredibly moronic I would not be surprised if they needed help getting dressed in the morning.
How can it be sexism when she loses to other women? And on top of that, it is nearly IMPOSSIBLE to be oppressed or a victim while also being a multi-millionaire.
She already has more money than the majority of the world's population couldn’t even dream of. But according to these people, that is not enough. How incredibly spoiled and narcissistic do you have to be to whine because you didn’t get a trophy?
The arrogance is infuriating. But again, we are not dealing with people who have even a fraction of a brain so we could have probably predicted this.
Anyway, maybe these people can learn something by researching what true oppression is. I recommend they start by googling Syria or Afghanistan. The patriachy in those places are not invsilbe like in the U.S.
