Gauntlet Thrown: Mark Wahlberg Says Celebrities Should Shut Up About Politics
Celebrities have been doing a lot of soap boxing this past election cycle. And we've been doing a lot of mocking said celebrities (see Desperate Much? Idiotic ‘Celebrities’ Make ANOTHER Anti-Trump Video). When it comes to politics, celebrities are the out of touchiest. But that doesn't stop them from coming out in droves to tell Americans how to vote. It didn't prove to be a very effective strategy for them. Possibly because America doesn't care to be chastised by Hollywood's mewling boobs.
Turns out Mark Wahlberg agrees with us. No, seriously. In a recent interview He had quite a few things to say when asked about celebrities engaging maximum political overdrive...
A lot of celebrities do, and shouldn’t.A lot of Hollywood is living in a bubble. They’re pretty out of touch with the common person, the everyday guy out there providing for their family. You know, it just goes to show you that people aren’t listening to that anyway. They might buy your CD or watch your movie, but you don’t put food on their table. You don’t pay their bills.
Me, I’m very aware of the real world. I come from the real world and I exist in the real world. And although I can navigate Hollywood and I love the business and the opportunities it’s afforded me, I also understand what it’s like not to have all that.
And here I thought we'd never hear something insightful coming from the mouth of a celebrity beefcake (see Channing Tatum Talks Moronically About 'Rape Culture.' Yep, We Mock Him...). Marky Mark just managed to diss the puffed up bowels of Hollywood in the classiest of ways.
Look, nobody's saying that actors don't have a right to an opinion. But the rest of us can point out when those opinionated actors are wrong and ass-like. Which is most of the time. They also bring up unsolicited political tirades and chastise their audience at the worst times... See, Mark's expressing his opinion here without coming off as a pompous buttnugget. The difference? He was asked.
And he brings up a good point. Celebrities are separated from regular people by a few degrees. Or mansions. But remember, they know what's best. Hence why they made careers reading the words from scripts written by people waaay smarter than them.
Seriously though, it takes some brass ones to speak out against the gaggle of movie stars uniting to embrace leftism. It would seem that Mark Wahlberg isn't a fan of all the bloviating. Can you blame him? Negative. Hollywood is a dumpster for humans.
It's a relief to see more actors pushing back against the leftist machine (see Clint Eastwood Schools Politically Correct Lefitsts: Stop Calling Everyone a Hero). It isn't very often that we here at LwC find ourselves agreeing with celebrities. But when it comes to schooling liberal actors, we can't help but find Mark rather convincing. Likely because he's a tad familiar with the desires of regular, non-celebrity Americans. But also possibly because biceps.
