In heavily anti-gun states, stabbings are on the rise. Why? Because when you ban guns, bad guys resort to their resourcefulness, using any weapons they can find, in order to continue doing bad things. This long-known fact of life is lost on people like Bill DeBlasio, and was evident this week at a Massachusetts mall.

A man on a stabbing spree was stopped by an off-duty officer. Who was carrying a gun.

DaRosa then jumped in a car and drove to the Silver City Galleria mall, Quinn said. After crashing the car in front of a Macy's department store, he went inside and attacked several people before running off to a Bertucci's restaurant, where he stabbed four more people.

One of those victims, a 56-year-old Taunton man, later died.

DaRosa, who was from Taunton, located 39 miles south of Boston, was shot and killed at the Silver City Galleria by an off-duty deputy sheriff.

"It appears that but for the actions of the deputy sheriff, there may very well have been other victims," Quinn said. "I want to extend my heartfelt prayers and sympathies to the victims of this horrific violence."

The deputy sheriff, who just happened to be in the right place at the right time, saved the lives of many people. Because he had a gun. This is a classic "bad guy with a knife meets good guy with a gun" story. It just so happens to fall under the umbrella of my favorite genre.

I expect a law mandating that all shopping centers post a "This mall is a knife free zone" at their entrances is forthcoming.

Of course not. Signs saying "Don't do bad things here" never wards off people who do bad things. I know this may seem repetitive- but allow me to re-iterate a basic concept: criminals, by definition, break laws. So when a lawless man with a knife drove into a mall to stab people, what stopped him was not a sign. What stopped him was not a yellow, anti-violence awareness ribbon. What stopped him was not Moms Demand Action. What stopped him was a good guy with a gun. Like these guys who cut down armed robbers at a barbershop.

A familiar tale, to be sure. Good people with guns save lives every year. Like this woman who thwarted a downtown mugger by pulling out her gun and dropping him.

Good people with guns shoot bad people with weapons intent on doing harm.

Here's another simple concept (if one I feel compelled to repeat ad nauseam): this is why we have The Second Amendment. We have the right to defend our lives from people who wish to do us great harm. That can take the form of a tyrannical government, or an assclown with a knife at the mall.

Of course that's not how leftists see the Second Amendment. They read it as something a little more like this...
