Matt Rife reacts to haters trying to cancel his Netflix special with something that will REALLY trigger them
Comedian Matt Rife has a new Netflix special Matt Rife: Natural Selection. And it is so triggering, the opening joke has people wanting to cancel him. So he doubled down with a response that will make them want to cancel him harder.
I haven't had the chance to watch the special myself, so I'm relying on the New York Post here. I'm also still unclear where Matt Rife came from. I'm not a TikTok person. All I know is a friend dropped X with his "Milf & Cookies" video -- where at an Iowa gig, a MILF brought him cookies and an "I came to Iowa and all I got was this t-shirt and a bl*w job" shirt -- and the next thing I knew he was all over my YouTube recommends.
Here's how the Post translates the opening joke about Rife going to the ratchet part of Baltimore and the waitress having a black eye. I'll save you the trip to Urban Dictionary. "Ratchet" is urban vernacular to mean "uncouth."
“A full black eye,” he continued. “It wasn’t like, ‘What happened?’ It was pretty obvious what happened.”
”But we couldn’t get over, like, this is the face of the company? This is who you have greeting people,” he continued. “And my boy, who I was with, was like, ‘Yeah, I feel bad for her, man, I feel like they should put her in the kitchen or something where nobody has to see her face.’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, but I feel like if she could cook, she wouldn’t have that black eye.'"
Having not watched the special myself, as described by the Post, the joke loses a little in interpretation. But also, having not watched the special myself, the fact that it was Rife's opening bit leads me to believe the joke most likely killed.
The usual suspects are the usual suspects.
Rife addressed the matter on Instagram stories, with a link to his official apology for anyone who has ever been offended by a joke he told. He didn't specify the "domestic violence" joke. But since that's the one causing what critics call "controversy," it is safe to assume he's addressing the ratchet waitress.
And then when you click the link to get your apology, it goes to this page.
Well done, sir.
