“Menstrual Equity” is now a thing and nothing makes sense anymore.

The City of Victoria posted a very serious X post claiming that they are joining “efforts to reduce the stigma around periods & work towards menstrual equity.” They will achieve said “stigma” by lighting City Hall red and displaying the “period flag”.

And today I learned there is something called the “period flag”.

Pride month has barely even started and it’s horrifying how insane things will get this year.

It’s unclear what menstrual equity even is but I doubt lighting the building in red lights would do much of anything for that.

Just the phrase alone makes no sense, considering equity means equal outcomes. How can you achieve equal outcomes for periods, especially considering half the world will never get one???....

According to the ACLU, “The equity framework is intended to acknowledge the far-reaching societal importance of and need for public policy to address the safety, affordability, and availability of menstrual products for everyone who needs them.”

In other words, it’s a nonissue.

It also makes no sense why any government would claim to be fighting for such a non-existent cause because it sounds like they just want free menstrual products and the City of Victoria very likely has the means to provide that.

I don’t appreciate the government getting involved with things that aren't even a thing and it’s not their job to "address the safety, affordability, and availability of menstrual products.” However, given how incredibly annoying these people are, let’s give them the “free” products as long as they promise to never say “Menstrual Equity” again.

I guess universal healthcare does not do much for “Menstrual Equity”. I would call that pathetic but I still don’t fully grasp what is at hand.

Unclear what the City of Victoria and Sault Ste Marie have done to actually fight this nonissue but I hardly doubt pandering with red lights and a flag did anything for it. And as of writing this, “Menstrual Equity” is still not a thing.
