Michael Caine Defends Brexit: 'I'd Rather Be a Poor Master, Than a Rich Servant'
Michael Caine is a rarity amongst actors, in that he has a fully-functional cerebrum. Everyone's favorite Cockney has proven himself formidable at cutting through the bull and offering perspective on a buttload of issues, from the made-up gender pay gap to made-up racism at the Oscars. Well, Sir Mi-al decided to weigh in on Brexit, and he didn't disappoint...
Actor Michael Caine defended the United Kingdom’s decision to leave the European Union in a Thursday interview to Sky News.“I voted for Brexit,” Caine revealed. “What it is with me, I’d rather be a poor master than a rich servant.”
The veteran actor explained that the Brexit vote “wasn’t about the racism, immigrants or anything, it was about freedom.”
Caine later expressed his confidence that the U.K. would “be alright” once it makes its formal exit from the EU.
The Academy Award winner revealed in 2009 that he got fed up with the left-of-center Labour Party and voted for the Conservative Party. At the time, he asserted, “We’re in a terrible state whichever way you look at it, socially, financially and politically, so just give the other guy a chance.”
Caine also served during the Korean War, which “extinguished his youthful sympathy for communism,” according to a January 2016 interview with The Guardian.
Well said, Alfred. Cheers to you, sir.
Michael Caine absolutely killed it with that metaphor. Having all the monies in the bank is nice and all, but really, what good is it when you're led around on a leash by some foreign bureaucrat and told what to do all the time? Servitude is lame, bruh.
Leftists claim Brexit was about stuffy, white aristocrats coming together to force the brown people out of the U.K. Except, that's not the case. Sure, sure, it was a factor, but there was a larger issue at stake. You don't have to be an award-winning thespian, or even a Limey, to put the pieces of that puzzle together. Leftists fail to understand Brexit was about one thing, and one thing only...
The left has opposed Brexit every step of the way, kicking and screaming like a spoiled child who thinks he's a girl. We can't expect them to understand the ins and outs of them freedoms. They're the ones always fighting to take freedoms away, not to give them. So, of course, they'd kick up a fuss when the needle starts moving the other direction. For them, more freedom is bad for business.
I felt bad that the above clip was less than 30 seconds. Here's a longer video from a year ago with all the wins.
The EU is a bad deal, and every country has a right to make decisions for itself. No matter the negative effects which, by the way, at least in the UK's case have yet to be seen. Independence is the tops.
Besides, how could any sane person ever side against a smooth-talking pimp like Nigel Farage...
