Mike Rowe Destroys the Latest Bernie Sanders Meme
We've talked about how much common sense Mike Rowe consistently drops on the American public, and have written about it in depth here. We've also talked about how clueless Bernie Sanders is, and we've talked about that here. Finally, in what can only be seen as divine intervention, the two galaxies have collided!
It started with this tweet.
At the end of the day, providing a path to go to college is a helluva lot cheaper than putting people on a path to jail.— Bernie Sanders (@Bernie Sanders) 1450039990.0
Usual leftist catchphrase-y nonsense, but enough to raise the ire of Mike Rowe, who referred to Sanders' tweet, and its cult-like supporters as "knuckleheads who continue to perpetuate this nonsense." The nonsense that he's talking about? This notion that college is the only path to success for most people.
Then he went off...
I try not to be political on this page, because the truth is, arrogance and elitism are alive and well in every corner of every party - especially with respect to this topic. But I have to admit, this is the first time I’ve seen an elected official support the hyper-inflated cost of a diploma by juxtaposing it with the hyper-inflated cost of incarceration. Honestly, I’m not sure what to make of it.Is it possible that Senator Sanders doesn’t realize the number of college graduates with criminal records? Is he unaware of the millions of successful tradespeople and entrepreneurs who didn’t pay for a sheepskin, but somehow managed to stay out of the clink? Does he not recognize that comments like his will encourage more kids who are better suited for an alternative path to borrow vast sums of money they’ll never be able to pay back in order to pay for a degree that won’t get them a job?
Though in Bernie's defense, how can liberals indoctrinate the youth of America if they aren't being sheltered from opposing viewpoints on college campuses?
Think about what a brilliant ploy this is for Bernie.
- Receive votes from non-tax-paying students by promising them free college.
- Send everyone to college for free where leftists are indoctrinating them for a lifetime to come.
- Profit.
Think "indoctrinating" is a strong word? Well, I think "segregated cultural safe spaces" "trigger warnings" and "mandatory cultural sensitivity training" are all strong words, so there's that.
But Mike Rowe is making a bigger point that resonates with many Americans but is oft ignored by the media on both the left and the right; that there are plenty of intelligent, capable, contributing Americans who are simply not cut out for academia. Why look down your noses at employers, entrepreneurs, and innovators simply because you have an expensive piece of paper indicating a learning experience achieved less expensively on Google?
Then let me ask you, (yes, using two extreme examples to make a point here) who is more valuable to a country?
Someone who doesn't go to college, learns a trade, advances in the workplace, pays taxes and eventually employs other Americans?
Or the lifelong student living on student loans and eventually, if they're lucky enough to become a professor, government grants?
Also, of the two, who's the one actually paying for "free college?"
