Mike Rowe: Why Are Tax Dollars Funding Colleges Which Burn the Flag?
There's a growing trend among the overly sensitive snowflakes at universities these days: burn the flag, and burn it good. Ashes to ashes, red white and blue to dust. Only at liberal universities could the American Flag be "problematic" after all. For more background read Hampshire College Removes American Flag. Veterans Have PERFECT Response… and chase it with the delectable Tucker Carlson Makes Mince Meat of College Student Who Hates American Flag.
Mike Rowe has tossed his thinking cap into the fray. Hopefully it won't get singed in the liberal tolerance fire of purity. Because unsurprisingly, he has a good point...
I saw a number a college students setting fire to the American flag. Some of the students said they were "angry." Others said they were "disgusted." But many others were anxious to explain why they had become “fearful” of the American Flag. Interesting. At Hampshire College, The President, Jonathan Lash, has actually removed the flag from his campus, in response to students who expressed “fear and discomfort” when confronted by the sight of Old Glory.Tuition at Hampshire College is about $60,000 a year. That’s not a problem because it’s expensive – it’s a problem because 85% of Hampshire students qualify for some form of federal financial aid. That means that We the People are enabling schools like Hampshire to sell a liberal arts degree for approximately $250,000. With $1.3 trillion dollars of student debt currently on the books, I found myself thinking how nice it would be to hear a more persuasive argument from those who will happily take money from a country whose flag they despise.
I turned the channel, and watched another group of students dance around another pile of burning flags at another expensive university. I couldn't tell where they were, but occurred to me that wherever they were – it probably wasn’t a trade school.
Hence why we call modern university students "snowflakes." Not just because they're delicate, innate beings lacking the capacity to withstand heat (unless said heat emanates from a flag-burning blaze), but because they possess the intellectual acumen of fluffy frozen water.
Mike Rowe has just highlighted a delicious little irony. The same students who eschew classes to barbecue the flag, have a great deal of their skipped classes subsidized by the union which flies the flag. Specifically American taxpayers who'd probably rather not fund Sally and Sammy Student as they play hooky to burn baby burn. I'm just spitballing of course. Though as said taxpayer, I'd personally rather opt out of the "Yes, I'd like to fund morons who play anarchist rather than learn math" box. Someone point that out on the tax form, okay?
Another point Mr. Rowe had? These flag burnings are only happening at snooty schools of "higher learning" not trade schools. Yes, it's a dig at universities, but it goes to a greater point. Those who've chosen to learn something, dare I say it, more "hands on and practical" have more interest in learning that skill than setting fire to a country's flag. Perhaps because students of trade have better things to do, like learn a valuable skill which will earn them coin, than trash a flag. Again, just spitballing.
Advice to you liberals with chronic brain farts: Stop setting fire to the flag, start learning something useful, which will not see you in the unemployment line from here to eternity. A little more engineering, a little less gender queer studies.
